School of Science, Information and Technology

The School of Science, Information, and Communication Technology (SICT), was established along with other pioneer academic units of Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB) in 2022. Comprising five departments namely; Department of AppliedBiology, ; Department of Applied Chemistry, ; Department of Computer Science,; Department of Applied Mathematics, and Department of Applied Physics. The school offers undergraduate programs in disciplines such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Industrial chemistry, Mathematics. Physics, Applied Geophysics and Software Engineering. SICT aims to produce graduates equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the national and global workforce, advancing FUTB’s vision of becoming a leader in technology-driven education and innovation.

Principal Officers

DR. BABANGIDA IBRAHIM BABURA

(DEAN SSICT )

Dr. Babangida Ibrahim Babura is a seasoned academic with research interest in Applied Statistics and Linear Algebra, holding a PhD in Applied and Computational Statistics from University Putra Malaysia with Master and Bachelor degrees from Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. Currently a Reader and Acting Dean of school of science Information and Communication Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Babura, he has extensive teaching experience in Mathematics and Statistics across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His specific research focuses on areas like Linear Algebra, Exploratory Data Analysis, and Computational Statistics, with numerous publications in esteemed journals. Dr. Babura has held key administrative roles, contributed as a journal editor and reviewer, and participated in international conferences as presenter and keynote speaker. A skilled professional in tools like R, Python, and MATLAB, he is also a member of prominent mathematical societies and actively supports educational development through workshops and curriculum initiatives.

DR. KHALID HARUNA

(HOD COMPUTER SCIENCE)

Dr. Khalid Haruna, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Federal University of Technology, Babura, holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems (University of Malaya, 2018) and B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees (Bayero University, Kano). His research spans Recommender Systems, IoT, Big Data Analytics, Sentiment Analysis, and e-Learning, with over 50 ISI WoS/Scopus-indexed publications in top journals like PLoS ONE and IEEE Access. He’s a guest editor for Frontiers in Psychology and has extensive peer-review and conference committee experience. Dr. Haruna has supervised 14 M.Sc. students, mentors Ph.D. candidates. He doubles as Director ICT and HOD Computer Science. Beyond academia, he is the Managing Director of LaynHub and SAKA Synergy Limited and serves as a co-founder of Alfagachi Integrated Farms Limited.

DR. ISAAC OLUWATOBI ABOLUDE

(HOD APPLIED CHEMISTRY)

Dr. Isaac Oluwatobi Abolude is the pioneer HOD of the Department of Applied Chemistry, Federal University of Technology, Babura. He has a Ph.D in Colour Chemistry and Technology from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from where he also obtained his M.Sc. and graduated as the best graduating student of his set during the pursuit of his B.Sc degree programme. His great analytical skills, quest for knowledge, honesty, diligence, perseverance, leadership and oratory ability has always singled him out amongst his peers. Asides being a great researcher, he is also a multi-talented musician who has always used his gifts for the benefits of humanity.

DR. ABDULAZIZ GARBA AHMED

(HOD APPLIED MATHEMATICS)

Dr. Abdulaziz Garba Ahmad is a lecturer in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Federal University of Technology, Babura. Previously, he worked at the National Mathematical Centre Abuja, progressing from Research Assistant to Research Fellow 1 between 2010 and 2023. He holds a BSc in Pure Mathematics from KUST Wudil, an MSc in Mathematics from Sharda University in India, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Comsats University in Islamabad, Pakistan. His research interests and expertise lie in computational fluid dynamics, fractional derivatives, and modelling liquid chromatographic systems.

DR. ABDULLAHI BELLO

(HOD APPLIED PHYSICS)

Dr Abdullahi Bello is the pioneer HOD of the Department of Applied Physics, Federal University of Technology, Babura. He also acted as the Ag. Dean of School Science, Information and communication Technology on the departure of first Dean. He hold Ph. D in Nuclear Physics from Ahmadu Bello University. He is very innovative in challenging situations and can be counted upon at short notice. His open door policy endear him to the Department Staff by putting their interest first.

MAL. JIBRIN ASHIRU IBRAHIM

(HOD APPLIED BIOLOGY)

ASHIRU IBRAHIM JIBRIN is an accomplished academic and researcher, currently serving as the Acting Head of the Department at the Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, Nigeria. His educational background reflects a strong commitment to excellence in the field of microbiology and biotechnology. He completed his BSc in Microbiology at Bayero University, Kano, in 2012, where he was consistently recognized for his outstanding academic performance, earning the Best Student Award from Level 1 to Level 4. His exceptional academic achievements earned him two scholarships during his undergraduate years.After graduation, he was awarded a scholarship from the Kano State Government to pursue his Master's degree at Sharda University, India, where he completed his Master of Technology in Biotechnology in 2015. Throughout his academic career, he has demonstrated a deep passion for animal biotechnology, with a particular focus on animal breeding, a field in which he continues to research and teach.
